Four finalists have been selected for the in-cosmetics Lifetime Achievement Award, chosen for their professional accomplishments and dedication to the field of cosmetics science.

Dr Alain Khaiat, Dr Karl Lintner, Dr Daniel Maes and Dr Johann Wiechers were shortlisted after approximately 500 nominations were received via the in-cosmetics website.

Event director Richard Hesk told CosmeticsDesign-Europe.com that as in-cosmetics is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, it was thought important to recognize what has been achieved so far as well as looking at innovations of the future.

“It therefore seemed fitting to recognize someone who has significantly contributed to the industry over the past 20 years,” he explained.

Inspirational finalists

Dr Khaiat has dedicated much of his 40-year career to the issue of safety within the cosmetics industry, and as a founder member of several ASEAN (Association of South-East Asian Nations) associations, he has been credited for bringing together the Asian, American and European cosmetics markets.

Dr Lintner has over 25 years of experience within the area of skin biochemistry, and spent 10 years researching biological peptides at the Nuclear Research Centre in Saclay, France. An important contributor to the understanding of skin aging, Lintner has also been responsible for the technical and commercial development of peptide technology.

Former senior vice president of global research and development at Estée Lauder, Dr Maes has also been shortlisted for award. Dr Maes has developed cutting-edge products such as Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Cream, and is considered an industry authority in the areas of DNA Repair, glycation, collagen synthesis and skin barrier function.

Now an independent consultant to the cosmetics industry having worked in research for Unilever and Uniqema, Dr Wiechers is best known for his work on ‘formulating for efficiency’, which concentrates on the development of more effective cosmetic products allowing for lower levels of active ingredients.

Online public vote

An online public vote is open until 31 March to decide the winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award, which will be presented at the in-cosmetics show in April.

Hesk hopes that the accolade will provide recognition for the winner and highlight the significance of their work in the cosmetics industry. “As the award is voted for by those working in the industry, it will be a huge achievement for the winner to be recognized by their peers in this way,” he said.
