Chemical supplier Safic-Alcan will be offering new waxes and an avocado powder in the hope of strengthening its position in the personal care sector.

The company will be targeting personal care players with three types of beeswax, raw, refined and bleached, as well as candelilla wax, carnauba wax and japan wax.

The waxes will be available through Eggar & Co, which was acquired by Safic-Alcan in 2008 and already has a number of wax-based products aimed at the cosmetics market.

All four of the new waxes are supplied by UK-based company Poth Hille, which has been manufacturing and refining waxes for over a century. The company will also continue to supply a small number of clients directly.

“The two companies are looking at a positive future working together in these difficult economic times,” said Safic-Alcan.

Freeze-dried avocado for skin care treatments

The waxes are not the only recent addition to Safic-Alcan’s personal care portfolio. Last month the company took on the distribution of a freeze dried avocado powder for cosmetic applications.

Mexican company SíOSí freeze dries the avocado pulp to produce a powder which can be preserved without the use of preservatives for 28 months and turned back into a paste with the addition of water.

According to SíOSí, the avocado has high omega 3, 6 and 9 oils that can help keep the skin hydrated and elastic as well as high vitamin E content with strong antioxidant properties.

The company claims US cosmetic manufacturers are investigating the use of the powder in a range of cosmetics applications such as face masks and treatments, and in Turkey is used in Spa treatments.

Safic-Alcan is the company’s distributor in the UK and Ireland.
