SCC readies for 12th biennial Sunscreen Symposium
Held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Tampa Florida, the event will feature a roundtable discussion that will touch on sunscreen regulation and is set to be attended by officials from the FDA.
The roundtable discussions are likely to focus on the issue of UVA rays and how products should be labeled to indicate to consumers how much UVA protection specific products offer them.
The event will begin on Thursday September 10th with a half day course on sunscreen photostability, one of the most pressing issues facing sunscreen formulators and developers.
Key developments in sunscreen photostability
The course will be given by Craig Bonda, an expert in the field of sunscreen formulation who is credited with being one of the driving forces in the development of sunscreen formulations that specifically provide protection for UVA rays.
The half day course will also be supplemented by a UVA mini conference on UVA formulation, which will be capped off by the round table discussions involving the FDA officials.
The proceedings resume on September 11 but will only last the morning, featuring podium presentations from leading innovators and providers in the sunscreen field.

One of the company’s featured in this segment will be German ingredients provider Evonik, which will be highlighting its latest innovations in the area of sunscreen emulsifiers – a vitally important aspect of sunscreen formulation.
The company will focus on the research and development work it has been undertaking to develop new and more effective emollients and will also be showcasing its latest ingredient innovation aimed at this area.
On Saturday September 12 a full day of conferencing will include further podium presentations in the morning, followed by a breakdown tabletop display, topped off by a gala dinner sponsored by DSM Nutritional.
