Oral care company Nuvora has launched teeth-whitening lozenges which dissolve in the mouth in an hour. The product, called NuvoraWhite, claims to whiten the teeth, kill bacteria and freshen the breath.

The company claims it to be a breakthrough in teeth-whitening because many manufacturers have been searching for a way to make such products easier and quicker to use. While strips and trays are currently available, Nuvora claims that this new product cuts out the hassle of home teeth whitening.

Based on patented technology

Nuvora has an existing portfolio of oral care products are designed to help eradicate cavities, gum diseases and oral inflammation in the same wet-matrix based soft lozenges. NuvoraWhite product uses this delivery system to distribute “the right level of effective ingredients to be released evenly over a long period of time”.

Nuvora states that the ingredients used in NuvoraWhite are all Generally Recognised as Safe (GRAS) by the FDA. It contains carbamide peroxide as the whitening agent, essential oils and xylitol to kill bacteria, and zinc to freshen the breath.

Another benefit, according to Nuvora, is the way in which the lozenge whitener does not cause sensitivity, as other home-whitening treatments have been claimed to.

The main selling point for NuvoraWhite is the simplicity of the use for consumers. The lozenge is placed in the mouth and moved occasionally over the front teeth for best results.

The company recommends using the lozenges twice a day for 12 days for best effects, although they can also be used for a maximum of 18 days or as touch-up to brighten the effects of previous whitening treatments.

In a pilot study, NuvoraWhite achieved an average of 7.8 shades improvement in 12 days. It is claimed that this is the equivalent, or better than, existing home-whitening products.

Growing market

Teeth-whitening is one of the major growth markets to emerge from oral care and is particularly strong in America. Previous studies in the US commissioned by Crest Whitestrips found that 65 percent of those interviewed believed that white teeth made people look more professional. It has also been linked to appearances of confidence, beauty and health.

This latest breakthrough in teeth whitening, which allows people to whiten their teeth whilst getting on with their busy lives, could achieve strong results in the market.
