International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) has promoted three senior perfumers to vice president positions in fine fragrance and beauty care.

Yves Cassar has been promoted to senior perfumer VP, fine fragrances, while Mary Shroff and Jerry Caiazzo have each been named senior perfumer VP, beauty care.

Varied but deep perfumery experience

All three perfumers have significant experience in perfumery. Yves Cassar has worked for over twenty years in the development and creation of fine fragrances.

Prior to his promotion, Cassar served as a senior perfumer at IFF’s creative center in New York. A graduate of Université Valrose in Nice, he began his career in France as a perfumer at Lautier Fils in Grasse before making the move to the US.

Mary Shroff, who joined IFF as a perfumer in 1998, followed a more atypical path, beginning her career as a lab technician for an ice cream company in Ireland. Later, working still as a lab technician, but this time in New York for a small French fragrance company, her talents as a perfumer were discovered, leading her into a successful career as a nose.

Unlike Cassar and Shroff, Jerry Caiazzo is a New Jersey native. The fragrance veteran joined IFF in 2003 having held a number of positions at various fragrance houses working as a chemist, lab supervisor and manager. He holds a BS in chemistry from Pace University and has attended Ecole de Parfumerie in Switzerland.

Promotions to senior perfumer posts

Besides these top level appointments, IFF has also announced the promotion of two employees to senior perfumer posts.

Dennis Maroney becomes senior perfumer, beauty care, after serving as a perfumer at IFF’s creative center in New York. He joined the company in 2001 following the acquisition of Bush Boake Allen.

Commenting on his appointment, Maroney said: “Every day I go to work and try to make the world smell a little better.”

The other promotion is Vellidum Ramsammy, who moves from perfumer to senior perfumer, technical. Originally from Guyana, Ramsammy knows the fragrance business from the bottom up having joined IFF as perfumer’s assistant in 1991 and rising through the ranks to become perfumer in 2002.
