Natural spherical beads combine a carrier system for active ingredients with visual impact for natural products, according to manufacturer Induchem.

The Switzerland-based company launched the natural version of its Unispheres product for the US market at Suppliers Day in New Jersey earlier this month.

Unispheres Natural is based on cellulose and xylitol from bamboo and the company claims that Ecocert certification is pending and should be received in the next few months.

“There is a major progression towards natural products for some of the major personal care and cosmetics brands,” said a spokesperson for the company.

Unstable actives

The spherical beads can be filled with active ingredients or fragrances; keeping unstable ingredients separate from the rest of the formulation until the beads are crushed when rubbed gently on the skin.

According to Induchem, there is no shell residue left on the skin after the beads have been crushed and only very gentle pressure is needed to break them.

“The beads are hard and solid before they have been processed into the formula, but once they have absorbed water from the product they are softened and when rubbed against the skin will burst, releasing their contents,” added the spokesperson.

Visual impact

In addition, they are available in four colors, natural white, bamboo green, ochre and terracotta, adding visual impact to clear formulations.

In addition, the company claims that Unispheres Natural have a loading capacity up to six times that of their conventional, non-natural cousins.

Although initially available in four colors, Induchem said that customisation of both colors and ingredient content is possible.
