Cereplast is the new supplier of bioplastic for the world’s first biodegradable and compostable floss pick.

According to Cereplast the Compostables resin chosen by DenTek is a renewable, ecologically sound alternative to petroleum-based plastic.

“Cereplast bioresins provided us with a way to create this first-of-its kind green floss pick without sacrificing quality or performance,” said DenTek’s vice president of marketing Lex Shankle.

DenTek’s Natural Floss Picks highlight the presence of bioplastics in increasingly niche product areas.

“Every day, we are seeing more and more manufacturers developing and manufacturing environmentally safe and sustainable alternatives to petroleum-based plastic products,” said Cereplast CEO Frederic Scheer.

The increasing popularity of bioplastic-based products, in addition to the growing trend for green packaging, has led to the rapid expansion of many providers, including Cereplast, in order to keep up with demand.

In the first nine months of 2008 Cereplast reported a 111% growth in gross sales to $3,401,011 compared to the nine months ended September 30, 2007.

Commenting on the triple digit growth experienced Scheer said:“Our business growth remains on track against our aggressive plans, and it reaffirms the market potential for our resins which offer sustainability gains and other benefits versus traditional plastics.”
