Anti-aging cosmetics started with the skin but have since moved to the hair and now Blistex is launching a lip balm that is formulated to take years off your lips.

Lip balms that protect against sun damage are well established and popular with mountain dwellers, sportspeople and sunseekers. But Blistex is going beyond sun protection and explicitly targeting the lucrative anti-aging market.

Blistex claims that Deep Renewal reduces deep and fine lines, and the formulation contains ingredients specially suited to the lips and others already found in topical anti-aging products.

Anti-oxidants are present for their well-known ability to help reduce free radical damage.

Light refractors are also included to provide SPF15 sun protection and therefore help defend the lips from the damaging rays of the sun.

Hyaluronic spheres are added to the product to attract and retain moisture and therefore give lips a fuller appearance.

With a similar aim in mind Blistex included Coenzyme Q-10, an ingredient that the company dubs the gold standard of moisturising.

Blistex conducted clinical trails on Deep Renewal and claims that over the course of four weeks, visual reports and lip moulds confirmed a reduction in the number and depth of lines and wrinkles.

“Blistex Deep Renewal actually erases some of the tell-tale signs of aging without requiring an invasive procedure,” said Dr. Charles Zugerman, associate professor of dermatology at Northwestern University Medical School.

“With regular application of Blistex Deep Renewal, lips have a more youthful appearance.”

Blistex Deep Renewal will be sold at food, drug and mass merchandisers nationwide across the US with a suggested retail price of $2.79.
