US suncare company UV Exposures claims its newly approved multifunctional sunscreen is likely to prove just as successful as an anti-wrinkle treatment.

Named after its principle active ingredient – Hi-ORAC-8 – the sunscreen has recently gained approval for sale in the US by the FDA and was soft launched this summer.

The company said that the product has proved to be more of a hit with consumers than anticipated, with users being particularly impressed by the effect the product has on treating the signs of skin aging caused by unprotected sun exposure, known as photoaging.

Consumers praise anti-aging properties

“Customers have praised our new sunscreen as an alternative to all the expensive wrinkle creams out there,” said Matthew Nicolo, president of UV Exposures.

The company says that the formulation breakthrough lies in the incorporation of natural antioxidants developed through extensive clinical research to reduce signs of aging and skin damage.

Likewise, as well as reversing the signs of aging, the product also works as a preventative for future damage to the skin by providing comprehensive UVA and UVB screens.

The ORAC factor

What makes the product innovative is its high Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) possible by combining some of the most effective topical use antioxidants into one formula.

Those antioxidants include green tea, pomegranate, cocoa, carrot, coffee and vitamins E, D and A, which, when combined have a positive impact on skin aging thanks to the effects they have on free-radical activity.

The company claims that the combination of these antioxidant extracts means that they have a ‘synergistic’ effect, which ultimately enhances their efficacy.

Targeting photodamage

“The latest topical antioxidant research and the positive effects on the reversal of photodamage caused by the sun is the foundation of our formula,” said Nicolo.

“Most wrinkle creams recommend a sunscreen be used with the product. With Hi-ORAC-8, our goal was to combine the best technologies of both industries into one product.”
