Safic-Alcan UK updates range to target exotic trend

Safic-Alcan UK has responded to increasing demand for exotic
sounding ingredients with a new range of butters and floral waters.

The products were developed by the company's French arm Sochibo and are now being brought to the UK market to target the growing demand for personal care products made with ingredients from distant shores.

Exotic appeal The additions to the UK catalogue include five EcoCert approved butters made from exotic sources such as Kokum and Mango along with four floral waters available in both organic and conventional form.

Safic-Alcan spokesperson Ken Jones told CosmeticsDesign.com that as well as tapping into the growing popularity of ingredients with a global and exotic feel the new products were developed for the growing UK market for sophisticated organics.

The new additions come two months after the company added six extracts to its Naturals range, which was established in the UK last year.

Preservative-free The company has also updated its catalogue with greater test data for many of its active ingredients and removed preservatives from five of its extracts.

Jones said making the ingredients preservative-free gives formulators greater flexibility and is also a reaction to increased consumer concern about certain preservatives.

New test data Safic-Alcan has also released newly collated test data on the application of its product Dextralip 10C, which is an anti-inflammatory ingredient used in aftersun, aftershave and sensitive skin products.

Supplying documentary evidence to support the claims made about active ingredients is reassuring to formulators and helps manufacturers to persuade consumers of the efficacy of their products.

Providing test data to demonstrate the effectiveness of an active ingredient is especially important when its effects are not commonly understood, added Jones.
