Silab launches ingredient for under-eye bags

Silab has developed an anti-ageing ingredient to tackle the
appearance of bags under the eyes and improve skin tone.

France-based ingredients supplier Silab designed Eye Regener for use in skin care products that target bags under the eyes and fight the appearance of wrinkles.

Containing oligopeptides and oligosaccharides, which are derived from alfalfa and white lupin, the active ingredient is designed to improve the appearance of the skin around the eyes in two ways.

Firstly, the company claimed it improves lymphatic drainage removing fluids from the skin tissue and therefore reducing bag volume.

Secondly, it is formulated to stimulate the production of collagen and inhibit MMP-1 synthesis in order to improve skin tone and firmness.

"Because Eye Regener rejuvenates the regard and smoothes traces of accumulated fatigue, it is dedicated to all eye contour treatment care products," stated Silab.

The company has carried out a series of in-vivo and in-vitro tests to demonstrate the effectiveness of the active ingredient.

Tested in an emulsion at 5 per cent concentration on twenty women with a mean age of 58, Eye Regener reduced the surface of under-eye bags by 5.7 percent in 67 per cent of the volunteers after twice daily applications for 56 days.

A total of 64 per cent of the volunteers also said they had noticed that their bags were less swollen after using the ingredient and 50 per cent said their eyes felt less tired.

Silab carried out several laboratory tests on various effects from the use of the product.

For instance, the company tested the impact of Eye Regener on collagen production and claimed that it stimulated the synthesis of collagen I by 282 per cent when tested on human fibroblasts at 0.75 per cent.

Silab has introduced a number of new ingredients for cosmetic formulations focusing often on anti-aging, which is an ever growing market boasting increasingly specialized products.

Most recently, in December the company targeted the male anti-aging market with the launch of SMS Energy, an ingredient designed to improve skin tone by accelerating skin cell renewal as well as boosting cell metabolism.
