Module inspects sealing surface of glass bottles

Filled glass bottles have to be leakproof. But this can only be assured if the bottle's mouth is undamaged. Krones said the new module can be fitted to its existing Linatronic series of empty-bottle inspectors. The Germany-based company claims the module allows the inside sealing surface of glass bottle mouths to be detected even more accurately. The module does this by improving the amount of lighting captured during the process. Normally when such machines inspect sealing surfaces, the illumination has come from above, using LEDs in a dome-shaped configuration, without any stroboscopic effect. The module uses a dual-flash LED illumination, which increases the accuracy of the inspection, the company claimed. The module also takes two pictures of each container, one of them with angled illumination from above, and one with vertical illumination. "Thanks to this optimised double-flash lighting concept, inspection has also been optimised, for more accurate detection of damage to the bottle's inside sealing surface," Krones stated.
