Tripeptide features as key ingredient in anti-aging launches

Tripeptide has become an increasingly important ingredient in
recent years and proving to be the ingredient of choice
for anti-aging products, a fact that is highlighted by some of the
most recent launches in the US.

A Tripeptide belongs to the peptide family of amino acide and is basically a specialized molecule and a synthetic peptide contraining three amino acid residues joined by peptide bonds.

A good example of a tripeptide would be glycerine, histidine and lysine, which is said to help improve skin condition as well as giving it a smoother appearance.

The most commonly used Tripeptides in anti-aging ingredient is tripeptide-1 and Tripeptide-3, which as well as contributing to skin condition, specifically target skin cell renewal through the regeneration of collagen.

As it is a technically advanced ingredient it is consequently fairly expensive and invariably ends up being formulated in products that are aimed at the premium end of the market.

Taking a look at Mintel's GNPD, its records show that in the past few months a handful of new wrinkle treatments have been included in formulations that are technically advanced and firmly targeted at the premium end of the market.

The first of those launches is Peter Thomas's Wrinkle Preventer Serum, which was recently launched on the market with a $75 retail tag.

It contains Aldenine, a free radical scavenger that combines soy, wheat and tripeptide-1 to maintain the appearance of strong collagen fibres, and in particular Collagen III - the type of collagen that is most abundant in young skins.

The product was first showcased at Cosmoprof, in Bologna, Italy, at the beginning of this month and also features a number of natural extracts, including watermelon, lemon, olive and oat protein.

This launch was also accompanied by the Peter Thomas Mega Rich Cell-4 firming cream for the eyes, a product that also featured tripeptide-3.

Priced at $65, this product actually contains four peptides that combine to improve the skin's texture, firmness and make it tighter.

Meanwhile iS clinical has launched Youth Complex under the Science of Skincare brand.

Priced at $135 for 1fl oz is marketed on the strength of its 'plumping' effect on the skin, which is highlighted by the regenerative effect on the collagen of tripetide-1.

The tripeptide contained in the product is said to help rebuild the dermal structure, ultimately contributing to an improved complexion and a more youthful appearance.

Finally Oxmostics has launched an Anti-Radical Age Defense system, a 1.7fl oz jar of cream that is said to provide a complete anti-aging treatment.

Combined with a tripeptide-1, it includes a comprehensive UV defense mechanism and a Barrier Repair Technology that it is said to target all types of free radicals involved in the skin aging process.

In fact it is a patented GHT tripeptide that is said to prevent cell damage from reactive carbonyl spices and stimulates collagen production.
