ExxonMobil launches lubricating emollient

ExxonMobil is more readily associated with filling up cars with
gas, but its Chemical division also supplies a number of
ingredients to the cosmetics industry, the most recently launched
being its innovative PureSyn Cascading Emollient System.

The ingredients is being launched at the New York Society of Cosmetic Chemists Supplier's Day, being held May 16-17 and is said to be unique because it has been formulated to include a lubricity gradient for skin care products as diverse as body lotions and night creams.

"Cascading effects create an elegant experience in a lotion or cream, but achieving those effects can be complex and challenging. The versatility of the PureSyn Cascading Emollient System can help formulators more simply attain a wide variety of finishing feels in lotions and creams," said Bill Britton, PureSyn global marketing manager.

Emollients are supple, waxlike, lubricating, thickening agents that prevent water loss and have a softening and soothing effect on the skin. They can be natural, like plant oils; manufactured, like silicones; or processed from a natural substance, like mineral oil.

They are increasingly playing an important part in cosmetics products, particularly skin care products. This is because there stabilizing properties help to provide improved mixture and texture for lotions and creams.

Consumers are increasingly won over to skin care products according to their feel and ease of application. The correct texture - not too thick and not too runny - as well as the ability for it to be spread evenly on the skin, are often precursors to whether or not a product will be a success, which is why emollient efficacy has become so important.

ExxonMobil Chemical says that its latest cosmetic ingredient has been designed with this requirements in mind. At the New York eve the company will give demonstration of lotions developed with the PureSyn Cascading Emollient System, enabling experts to discover how the system can creates its sensory experience.

Likewise, the company says that samples of products created with the PureSyn Cascading Emollient System will be available at its booth, No. 637.

The system forms part of the PureSyn product range, which are said to be a bright, clear, high-purity fluid that can be characterized as non-comedogenic and non-irritating. They blend well and bind well with a wide range of commonly used personal care and cosmetic ingredients, including sunscreens, skin cleansers, moisturizers and hair care products.
