US knowledge management firm EKM Corporation has launched an
updated version of its Laboratory Information Management System
(LIMS), in a move that aims to increase functionality, accuracy and
speed of testing results.

Referred to by the company as, 'LIMS Made Simple and Affordable', LABTrack LIMS addresses the data management needs of all types of production and analytical testing laboratories, including those for the personal care and fragrance industries.

In addition to the basic LIMS features, the system has a host of newly incorporated system that are often standard only on more expensive pieces of equipment. However, the company stresses that the simplicity of its set-up means that it can installed and running in a matter of days, as opposed to other systems that can take weeks to establish.

Likewise, built-in audit trails and electronic signature functions mean that the system can help laboratories meet a range of industry standards, including FDA and EPA compliance requirements.

The system also incorporates Microsoft .NET development tools, which means that users need only a browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, to make use of all the LABTrack's features.

Further to this, the system works with the Microsoft SQL Server relational database, which means it can support hundreds of simultaneous users, who can all be kept up to date with the progress of any one testing programme.

It is also geared up to the often stringent security requirements required by many testing projects, ensuring that only authorized users can gain acces to project data.

The company also says that when integrated with the LABTrack Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN), the system offers a unified environment across all corporate departments.

This means that sharing, collaboration and correlation of corporate data are all simplified, which is particularly useful for large corporate entitities or businesses where several divisions or departments have to work in unison on testing projects.

In turn the LABTrack audit trail accurately documents who made what changes, when and why, ensuring that all team members are fully accountable and that progress is easy to follow.
