Dow Chemical launches resin fluid for hair care

The company, which is currently the leading provider of silicon-based, performance-enhancing solutions for personal care applications featured a number of new products and also made a technical presentation at the show.

The presentations, given by Dr. Michael Simmonds, from the company's Applications Development Europe division, discussed the benefits of Polyquaternium 67 - a new family of cationic cellulosic conditioning polymers.

These polymers combine the trimethyl ammonium functionality of Polyquaternium 10 with low levels of dimethyldodecyl ammonium hydrophobic functionality, resulting in dramatic sensory improvements in both shampoo and body wash formulations - the company says.

The presentation described the benefits seen with these new materials in both conditioning and deposition, and benchmarked their performance versus several other types of widely used conditioning polymers.

On the company show stand, Dow Corning was featuring 2-2078, an amino phenyl resin fluid for hair care, which has been given the INCI designation Aminoproplyphenyl Trimethicone.

The resin is said to provide superior long-lasting shine as well as straightening and heat colour protection when used in hair care applications such as leave-on products, relaxers, colourants and rinse off products.

At the show Dow Chemical​ was also highlighting solutions for its Experience the Difference programme for personal care, which explores ways in which silicone can help enhance texture and provide skin feel and aesthetics in skin care formulations containing actives.

The company says that these formulation concepts are aligned with emerging market trends in skin care products designed to moisturise, lighten, tan or protect.
