Rooibos set to become key anti-oxidant ingredient

Symrise Research has conducted antioxidant efficacy tests on
Neo-Extrapone Organic Rooibos that determine it is as effective as
Green Tea. The findings could establish it as a key ingredient for
cosmetic applications.

The company said that the antioxidant capacity was evaluated using three different in-vitro methods: two chemically based tests, and one cellular test using 3T3 fibroblasts.

The results of the test proved that both products possessed considerable antioxidant capacity in all of the three assays.

Symrise says it is encouraged by the results, adding that it could well establish Rooibos as a new efficient ingredient for cosmetic products that satisfies the growing demands for valuable new natural and organically grown plant materials with proven efficacy. Both extracts are useful cosmetic ingredients for products with protective properties.

Aspalathin, a unique constituent of Aspalathus linearis​, is one of the phenolics in rooibos responsible for the antioxidant activity. The efficacy of Green Tea is mainly due to the group of catechins.

Neo-Extrapone Organic Rooibos and Neo-Extrapone Organic Green Tea are ingredients that belong to the Symrise range of organically certified botanical extracts. These products are concentrated, preservative-free powders with no solvents, and are entirely certified as organic according to the EEC Council Regulation No. 2092/91.
