Billerbeck-based Dr Suwelack Skin and Health Care company presented
two skin care product groups to the In-Cosmetics exhibition in
Milan.

Dr Suwelack Skin and Health Care manufactures biomatrices for health and beauty using the properties of collagen and raw plant materials for cosmeceutical and medical applications. The two product groups in its skin care range are Matricol, which is a collagen derived product, and Matrigel, which is derived from algae.

According to the company, the products have a variety of cosmetic and dermatological applications, as full neck and face masks, under-eye or décolleté masks. They are available in a variety of shades and sizes ready-to-use, or alternatively the company's customers can integrate them with their own products to sell under their own brand name.

"A range of active ingredients can be incorporated," said the company's representative Anne Hesping, "such as vitamin C; cava extract, which is popular for the treatment of tired and elderly skin; aloe gel, and a panthenol-based product, which is suitable for use with sensitive and irritated skin."

"Matricol is based on pure collagen so it is non-irritant and suitable for use after such treatments as micro-dermabrasion, fruit acid peels and it even soothes sunburn," she added.

It is made from native, insoluble collagen fibres, refined to what the company calls a biomatrix by freeze-drying. It is then re-activated when moisture is added.

"Matrigel is a different product based on algae, which transforms into a gel. Its benefits are that it is skin-smoothing and skin protecting in that it forms a fine film and the trans-epidermal water loss is reduced," Hesping explained.

The company's patented technology uses a freeze-drying process to gently extract water from natural raw materials, as a result of which the raw materials are preserved in a highly pure form. By using this technique the company is able to avoid using preservative agents, chemical cross-linking agents and perfumes and ensure the basis for skin compatibility. This product is also activated by adding moisture and transforms into a massageable gel.
