Green tea polyphenols to delay skin ageing
Green tea extract - expert to establish the filing of patents and
development of antioxidant topical formulations to rejuvenate and
delay the process of aging skin.
CCA has signed an agreement with Dr Stephen Hsu - a professor at the Medical College of Georgia - an expert on the properties of Camellia sinesis for use in skin care treatment.
"Numerous skin treatments containing green tea extracts are being marketed today, but they have not been formulated to provide the value of the antioxidant effects of green tea. It is my belief that the formulations that we are now working on together can provide those important skin treatment benefits," said Hsu.
Dr Hsu previously studied the effects of the most abundant green tea polyphenol, EGCG, on human skin and found that EGCG reactivates dying skin cells.
"Cells that migrate toward the surface of the skin normally live about 28 days, and by day 20 they basically sit on the upper layer of the skin getting ready to die. But EGCG reactivates them," reported Hsu in his study.
The professor suggested that if dying skin cells could be energised, skin condition could be improved to benefit psoriasis, rosascea, wrinkles and wounds.
Green tea is a highly effective antioxidant, which removes free radicals and plays an important role in the prevention of a number of diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, gastrointestinal disorders, periodontal disease and dental cavities.
By early next year, CCA expects that it will market a series of skin care products specializing in the use of the antioxidant properties of green tea with special proprietary formulations. The new products will be added to CCA's Sudden Change skin care line.
CCA Industries manufactures and markets health and beauty aids. Its products include Plus+White toothpaste and whiteners, Sudden Change skin care products, Scar Zone and Nutra Nail treatments.
The company also markets Mega Green Tea supplements, which are claimed to induce weight loss.
