The first-ever encyclopedia for the label industry is to be
launched this year at Labelexpo Americas 2004. The encyclopedia is
the result of almost four years of research by Mike Fairley,
founder and publisher of Labels & Labeling magazine.

"The aim of the new encyclopedia is to simplify complicated, and often confusing, terms and terminology for people within the industry. I hope it will be a useful contribution and that it will both ease the transition into the industry for new players, and be valuable to those who have been around for many years," said Fairley.

The Encyclopedia of Labels and Label Technology will be made up of more than 220 pages of traditional label industry terms and explanations relating to coding, digital design, printing processes, UV-curing, smart labels and RFID, EAS technology and legislation.

The encyclopedia is to also cover the major label technologies of wet-glue, self-adhesive, in-mold, sleeving, wrap-around film and cut-and-stack film, describing all the main label printing processes - both mechanical and electronic - as well as providing guidelines on global label legislation for food, drugs, cosmetics, aerosols and chemicals.

"The Encyclopedia of Labels and Label Technology is expected to rapidly become the definitive reference source for everything to do with labels. The Labelexpo Global Series offer key international opportunities for the labels industry to gather, do business, and learn - we are proud that the new encyclopedia will become the key tool for the industry to refer to throughout the year," said Labelexpo managing director Roger Pellow.

Key national and international associations for the label, printing and material industries are to be listed in the encyclopedia, as well as information on bodies such as ISO, FDA, BSI and related standards authorities.

Labelexpo Americas 2004 will take place 13-16 September this year at the Donald E Stephens Convention Centre in Rosemont, Illinois.
