Silk sales to surge ?

Cashing in on the trend towards natural ingredients, and benefiting
from the synergy with its sister company SilPRO that markets silk
essence powder, New Silk Road is keen to push silk as the natural
moisturiser.

US provider of silk-based cosmetics New Silk Road will launch its own line of silk-based products under the Miriam Gayle Collection.

Cashing in on the growing trend towards natural ingredients, and benefiting from the synergy with its sister company SilPRO that markets silk essence powder, the New Silk Road is keen to push silk as a natural moisturiser.

"It is readily absorbed into the skin and relieves minor burn redness and pain, without leaving the skin oily or greasy," said the company in a statement this week adding that there are 18 amino acids in silk, of which glycine, alanine, serine and tyrosine are key components.

The company will launch its own line of silk-based products under the Miriam Gayle Collection, including a new selection of bio creams from the Cheng Ming Ming Collection of Hong Kong. The products will incorporate an enhanced formula.

"As an early innovator of silk products for the beauty and skin care business, we are pleased to now have an improved presence in the skin care market," said Robert Averill, director at The New Silk Road. The company was established 10 years ago.

Silk is reputedly delicate to work with and processing requires care, but Averill says it is worth the effort as "silk is almost universally known and recognised as a natural ingredient, and, similar to other natural elements, it can not be duplicated by chemistry."

In a recent interview with CosmeticsDesign.com the company said that discussions were currently underway with potential distributors to bring its products to the UK and eventually Europe. This week the company claimed that it has a manufacturing and marketing partnership with ServiGlobe International Manufacturing, which has facilitated the distribution of their products throughout North America and in Europe.
