Amerchol plans line divestment to Lubrizol

Amerchol Corporation has announced an agreement for the sale of
several product lines used in the manufacturing of personal care
products, as well as a manufacturing plant in Belgium, to the
Lubrizol Corporation.

Amerchol Corporation, a subsidiary of the Dow Chemical Company, has announced an agreement for the sale of several product lines used in the manufacturing of personal care products, as well as a manufacturing plant in Vilvoorde, Belgium, to the Lubrizol Corporation.

The deal is set to include Amerchol's Methyl Glucoside Derivatives, Lanolin and Lanolin Derivatives, Ameroxol products, Promulgen products, Promyr and Propal products.

Terms of the transaction are not being released and the companies said the agreement remained subject to regulatory approval.

Lubrizol said it intends to integrate these personal care products into Chemron Corporation, a Lubrizol subsidiary acquired in April 2002. The acquisition is a strong, strategic fit for Chemron, as it expands their presence in the global personal care market, the company said in a statement. Adding that the added technology platforms complement Chemron's surfactants, esters, emulsifiers and micronized waxes, and should enhance the company's position in the hair care, hygiene and skin care markets.

Amerchol meanwhile will remain a Dow subsidiary and continue to market its remaining product lines to the global personal care industry.

The company said the divestment would allow it to increase investment in its strategic product lines, strengthen its portfolio and focus on new growth opportunities. Its strategy will now be to focus on its highly functional water-soluble polymers and related technologies for both hair care and skin care applications.
