Photomedex develops new range of DNA damage control sunscreens

Dermatology product manufacturer, Photomedex has developed a new range of SPF 40 UVA/UVB products featuring DNA repair enzymes that reduce visible signs of aging from the sun while also evening out the skin tone by using the body’s natural DNA repair process.

Formulated by the company’s Neova brand, the ‘DNA Damage Control Silc Sheer line,’ is said to provide advanced protection from the risks of skin cancer and premature aging while featuring light-deflecting particles, meaning it can also double up as a foundation substitute.

"Silc Sheer is even smarter today and ahead of the market in more ways than one, the DNA repair enzymes have shown to increase protection from sunburn to skin by 300 percent in one hour and is water-resistant up to 80 minutes,” says CEO Dr. Dolev Rafaeli.

 Key ingredients

According to Neova, the 80-minute water-resistant, oil-free sunscreens defend against broad spectrum UVA/UVB rays with transparent zinc and titanium dioxide that provide a physical barrier on the skin suitable for all skin types.

The formulas feature a liposome delivery system, which is specifically engineered to transfer DNA repair enzymes deep into the epidermis, to the site of the damage.

Merging for the better…

Last year, the manufacturer, which also specializes in proprietary excimer laser treatments and LED light systems, announced it was to merge with New York-based Radiancy in a bid to expand its footprint in skin care products for dermatological applications.

Radiancy develops and manufactures home-use and professional aesthetic and dermatological devices, providing a business portfolio that compliments that of PhotoMedex without any competition issues.

The deal ultimately combined PhotoMedex's strengths in professional dermatology and the plastic surgery market, with Radiancy’s global reach in the consumer market, presenting considerable synergies for sales and the distribution of a larger portfolio.

“We believe this is an excellent fit of corporate cultures, with a shared commitment to innovation, product quality and meeting the evolving needs of customers,”  said Dennis McGrath, then PhotoMedex president and chief executive officer.
