Dietary supplement brand targets hair loss in women

By Andrew McDougall , 01-Aug-2011

With hair loss reportedly becoming an increasing problem, particularly with women younger than traditionally expected, a maker of dietary supplements has targeted its latest supplements at this demographic.

Viviscal, which makes supplements for both men and women, are owned by Chicago-based Lifes2Good, and has targeted its range of hair thinning treatments at young women in their 20s and 30s.

"Traditionally, hair thinning and loss is an issue tackled by persons in their 50s," said Doris Day, New York City dermatologist.

"However, we're seeing a growing incidence of this issue in younger women. Fast-paced routines, daily stress, diet and over-styling are driving this increase, making hair thinning and loss a real issue for 20- and 30-somethings."

Raise awareness month

The American Academy of Dermatology has designated August as national hair loss awareness month encouraging women to look at their hair health and take appropriate action.

"Hair is a prized factor of beauty, especially for women," continued Dr. Day. "Women invest a lot of time and money in their hair. Hair thinning and loss is devastating at any age, causing frantic exploration into available solutions."

Viviscal claims that hair loss, especially in women can be put down to stress and other lifestyle factors.

Women comprise at least 46 percent of the US workforce and many are also moms, caregivers, active volunteers or even hold second jobs in addition to these other roles.

Increased stress in daily lives

Viviscal says that as women's roles flourish, stress levels climb and proper diet and exercise becomes more difficult to maintain, increasing the potential for hair thinning and/or loss regardless of age. Over-styling, crash dieting and other lifestyle practices compound severity.

Produced in Finland, Viviscal nutritional supplements are scientifically tested as an effective tool to combat thinning hair in both men and women, appropriate for all hair types.

The tablets contain the AminoMar C Marine Complex, which is made up of fish proteins that supplies nutrients needed to nourish thinning hair and promote existing hair growth.
