Beauty devices are "creating a new benchmark in facial skincare”

According to the latest research from ‘Diagonal Report’, the success of beauty devices have created a mega category and are transforming the skincare market, particularly in the US, China and Europe.

According to the market researcher, beauty devices are now shaping a distinctive beauty culture and expectations and are creating new standards in skincare.

"This change will impact demand for all manually applied/removed products skincare products – especially creams, cleansers and even make-up."

The report highlights that of the beauty professionals and device retailers interviewed about the segment, the general consensus is that the quality of the technology is evolving to provide professional standards, particularly in skincare.

"Cleansing brushes, light-based platforms and skincare systems has created a huge new market worth $US billions, despite the segment not existing a few years ago. Just as the electric toothbrush and the hair iron changed oral care and hair styling, these devices are creating a new benchmark in facial skincare.”

Evolving to professional levels

As beauty devices deliver immediate results especially for core skincare problems such as anti-aging and blemish removal, the market researcher says the technology has democratised beauty outcomes which were previously unaffordable and highlights that 70 percent of women would like to own a new beauty device.

While the report notes that; "despite the recession, women must continue to spend on their facial care," cost conscious consumers are doing the maths and they justify the purchase price by factoring in the money saved on skincare products, treatments and/or spa or dermatologist visits.

"Positive consumer reviews and feedback about results - all now on-line - are a major factor in driving strong demand."

AP region leading the way in this category

The Asia Pacific region has been singled out of late, as one of the markets leading the way in the beauty device category.

Fellow market researcher Global Industry Analysts has shown that the beauty device category will rack up an estimated 600 million units of beauty and personal care devices manufactured by the year 2018.

The most pronounced fast growing emerging markets for this segment, are noted as India, China, Thailand, Taiwan and Korea.
