Mazza Innovation signs deal to deliver bioactive cranberry extracts for clean-label beauty products

Vancouver, Canada – based Mazza has teamed up with Naturex to produce phytochemical ingredients from the nutrient-dense bog fruit.

The company’s cranberry production facility is newly online and Mazza Innovation’s president Benjamin Lightburn believes that “Naturex is a leader in the global nutraceuticals marketplace,” and that the agreement with Naturex “is excellent confirmation of the attractive premium quality of our clean-label, standardized products.”

Patented sourcing

Consumer attention continues to shape the business of ingredients, especially in the beauty and personal care space. Botanical extracts and other naturals are increasingly popular.

So Mazza Innovation’s technological ability to provide the industry with “solvent-free” botanical extracts holds a unique value. The Naturex Group just signed an exclusive deal “for [the] use of Mazza’s patented pressurized low-polarity water (PLPW) technology to extract phytochemicals from cranberries,” according to a joint press release from the companies.

Commercially scalable naturals

It’s a holy grail of sorts for beauty and personal care ingredient makers these days. So, it’s understandable that Naturex CEO Olivier Rigaud calls “this open innovation partnership with Mazza Ltd…a great opportunity to bring the global market new natural clean-label ingredients using environmental friendly technologies.”

Both companies seem to be striving to deliver valuable naturals to the global consumer: “As one of the foremost companies in the field of natural healthcare solutions, Naturex is fully aware of the importance of supporting innovative ideas and processes from various sources. The collaboration with Mazza Ltd is one of the first steps in our recently-launched global Open Innovation program.”

Well matched

The companies announced the deal at the Engredea tradeshow in Anaheim, California, over the weekend.

And, the partnership makes sense. Naturex sells plant-based ingredients for not only the personal care market but also for food and beverages and for nutrition and health. Headquartered in France, the company has sourcing, manufacturing and sales offices around the globe.

The extraction of bioactive compounds is Mazza Innovation’ s specialty. The company’s ingredients are “100% plant extracts that are free of any residual solvents or carrier compounds,” according to the press release.
