In-cosmetics is set to open its doors next week in Korea for the second year running, gathering together the industry in one of the world's leading markets for beauty and personal care innovation.

With its key focuses on the major emerging trends in the country and neighbouring region, this year's in-cosmetics Korea – to be held in Seoul, 6 – 7 July - will look at the latest in colour cosmetics, halal, anti-ageing and anti-pollution, showcasing the latest in ingredients and formulation.

It is also set to feature key presentations from some of the industry's leading experts on these tends and more, with experts from market research firms, research bodies and major brands set to lead seminars and workshops over the two-day event.

Why Korea?

Korea is a powerhouse when it comes to cosmetics, thanks to several contributing factors: it caters determinedly to the fast fashion innovation rate demanded by millennial consumers; it also keeps a keen eye on the 'silver surfing generation' with a strong anti-ageing offering; and it has a committed consumer base.

Indeed, according to the in-cosmetics event organisers, Reed Exhibitions, Koreans as a population “spend more on personal care products than any other nation”, and alongside the youngest and oldest generations, male consumers are increasing their contribution to this.

Korean men now spend more on cosmetics than males in any other country,” the organisers confirm. “This means the market for personal care products, and in particular deodorants, continues to grow. Over the past four years alone, sales for men over 60 rose by 72.8%, according to KB Kookmin.”

Innovation in focus

The in-cosmetics Korea show is set to afford a strong focus to research and development, with eight seminars set to take place during the first day on the latest scientific developments, both in Korea specifically, but also on the global stage more broadly.

Professor Yunhi Cho from Kyung Hee University and Dong Wook Shin of AmorePacific's R&D centre are two among the high profile speaker set to present.

These will be followed on the second day with a second series of seminars, this time centering on the key topics in cosmetics technical innovation, with over a dozen sessions on new ingredients, particularly focusing on pollution protection, peptides, emollients and biosurfactants.
