Copalis brings its sea peptides range to US
The ingredient range is based on the sea plant halophyte, and includes Sea Beet - aimed at skin whitening products, Sea Fennel – aimed at anti-blemish treatments, and Sea Lavender - aimed at anti-ageing formulations.
According to the company, the growing popularity of the use of peptides in cosmetics formulations is largely due to demand for multi-functional, efficient skin care actives. Additionally, their appeal to formulators also lies in the fact they are safe and easy to use.
Sea Beet peptides
Sea Beet is part of the spinach family and is rich in antioxidants, according to Copalis.
As a result of daily exposure to UV radiation, the Sea Beet Plant has developed a system that regulates its pigmentation, the company claims. The peptides showed them to be capable of inhibiting melanin synthesis of up to 110 per cent in in vitro tests.
The ingredient is suitable for use in several skincare applications, including whitening, brightening and anti-aging formulations.
Sea Fennel peptides
Another extract in the peptide range is Sea Fennel, which has been developed as an anti-blemish ingredient, the company said.
According to Copalis, an angiogenesis test performed on the Sea Fennel peptide found that a 1 per cent dosing level can visibly reduce the tubules responsible for skin blemishes.
Its ability to inhibit angiogenesis (the growth of new blood vessels from pre-existing vessels) means the peptide is particularly suitable for use in anti-redness skin care, anti-aging formulations for an even skin tone, and rosacea-targeting skin care, the company claims.
Sea Lavender peptides
Research into Sea Lavender found that because it grows in very high salt concentrations, it fights the conditions by developing accelerated levels of osmolytes and antioxidants.
This allowed the development of a peptide extract that is rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, according to Copalis, which in turn limits H2O2 production after UVA and UVB radiation, making it appropriate for both anti-ageing and sun care formulas.
Copalis is launching these new peptide extracts in the US at Suppliers’ Day in May.
