Hair and skin care brand launches its own organic ingredient line

Newly formed GIObis Laboratories has teamed up with Oh Oh Organics to launch all-natural organic emulsifying and preserving systems for the North American market.

The new ingredients were developed on the back of the Zatick Naturals portfolio, which is a range of USDA-NOP branded finished products that are made without using any synthetic chemicals to supply the skin, body, hair and wellness categories.

Zatick Naturals was established in 2008 by husband and wife team Garik and Ovsanna Mkrtumyan, at a time when the couple realized it was impossible to make truly effective organic emulsions for body care and hair care due to the lack of functional emulsifiers and preservatives.

In search of the right organic functional ingredients

The search for these types of functional ingredients for their own finished products led to the birth of GiOrbis Laboratories and ultimately the development of the new ingredients systems.

The GiO-103 preservative system and the GiO-105 emulsifying system were mainly the brainchild of Garik Mkrtumya and are certified by Oregon Tilth to the USDA-NOP Standard, which means they can be used in USDA-NOP, COSMOS, NaTrue, and NSF-305 formulas.

Both ingredients were developed using certified organic feedstocks and can be used as standalone ingredients under the right conditions, as well as also having the ability to be combined as raw materials in product formulations.

Limited choice for organic functional ingredients

The new lines form part of a very limited range of effective ingredient solutions on the market that provide this type of functionality while fulfilling strict organic certified criteria.

“These ingredients are Unique because of the certification and the unique range of uses in USDA NOP products. There is currently a very limited range of effective emulsifiers that allow NOP certification,” said Gay Timmons, founder of Oh Oh Organic, the Bay area business that will be distribution the lines.

“These new ingredients vastly improve the ability of a formulator to make a compliant product with far superior esthetics.”
