Today, the UK-based cannabinoid consumer goods venture and Willow Biosciences out of Vancouver, Columbia, Canada, announced a multi-year supply deal.

Just last month Willow Biosciences presented data on the skin care benefits of its biotech CBG at the Society for Investigative Dermatology’s annual meeting. The company’s data shows that CBG inhibits UV light and cytokine release triggered by C. acnes as well as that the ingredient acts as an antimicrobial and has antioxidant properties, as Cosmetics Design reported.

Now Willow Biosciences has reached another milestone on the journey to commercializing their biotech beauty ingredient: “We are very excited to announce our first commercial supply agreement for CBG,” Trevor Peters, CEO and President of Willow Biosciences, says in today’s press release about the deal.

“In just over two years,” notes Peters, “we have gone from proof of concept in the lab to commercial scale up and sales of our first cannabinoid which will be slated for use in a consumer product.

An international cannabinoid beauty supply chain

Regional and global regulation of cannabinoids for use in cosmetics, personal care, and other consumer goods is a moving target. And in the US and Canada still a deterrent for some companies. In Europe however, things seem to be moving forward. As Cosmetics Design – Europe reported, the European Commission added CBD to the CosIng database in February. And since then, further cannabinoid ingredients have been added as well.

Which is, likely why Willow Biosciences opted to partner with a consumer goods company in that region. What Peters tells the press is that, “Cellular Goods are at the forefront, developing premium consumer cannabinoid products in the United Kingdom and we are thrilled to be supplying them with our ultra-pure, biosynthetically made CBG.”

Biotech CBG skin care from Cellular Goods soon to launch in UK

Cellular Goods is a consumer products company in the making. Founded in 2018, Cellular Goods is developing cannabinoid products. First to launch will be a collection of premium skin care products. This fall, Cellular Goods plans to begin selling a line of daily skin care products as well as restorative treatment products and spot treatments. The company has partnerships is place to extend beyond the cellulargoods.co ecommerce site and make the skin care line available in the omnichannel world of beauty retail. (Cellular Goods is also at work to develop a line of athletic recovery or muscle care products.)

The soon-to-launch skin care line will be formulated with Willow CBG. “Successful products start with the best ingredients and being able to source consistent, highly-pure cannabinoids via cellular agriculture from a trusted provider like Willow is essential to our business,” acknowledges Alexis Abraham, CEO of Cellular Goods, in today’s press release.

“CBG is the most promising cannabinoid for skincare applications and we believe it will become a must have upgrade to people's daily routines,” continues Abraham, adding that the Cellular Goods skin care line will leverage ingredient efficacy research to bring novel cannabinoid skin care to the UK consumer market.
