The professional organization’s annual Beauty Awards are among the most respected in the cosmetics and personal care industry. This year, CEW has added 6 new categories. And interested applicants have until late October to get submissions in (though any entries after September 29 are subject to late rates and guidelines).

“Each year CEW’s Beauty Awards honors the most groundbreaking, game-changing launches and brands in mass and prestige beauty,” explains the Cosmetic Executive Women’s Beauty Awards page. “Hundreds of companies enter their products with the goal of having them recognized as best.”

That recognition is key. Not only do Beauty Award winners gain the credential of the award, but every applicant gets the opportunity to showcase their brand and product to thousands of cosmetics and personal care industry insiders as well as to press and influencers at the CEW’s lively Product Demo Event. The 2020 Product Demo Event is set to take place Thursday 27 February.

New CEW Beauty Award categories

Each year, CEW refreshes the award category list to ensure that it aligns with current consumer preferences and market realities. For instance, indie beauty brands have had their own categories for several years now; and in 2019 CEW added a wellness category to its awards program.

For 2020, there will be a new category for face masks, for unisex fragrance, for CBD beauty, for sexual wellness products, and for hair accessories as well. All of these are categories that make sense given how beauty has grown and evolved recently (and they are almost all categories that have made headlines here on Cosmetics Design in recent weeks and months as well).

Which is why the CEW Beauty Awards luncheon (May 15, 2020) will be a good place to see which brands standout in trendy new categories. The 2019 event highlighted trends like microbiome beauty, wellness, and the continuing success of independent beauty brands, as Cosmetics Design reported.

And the 2020 CEW Beauty Awards will also recognize a mission-based brand for the first time. With conscious consumerism and social and political issues shaping up to be ever more important in business, mission-driven beauty brands certainly have a place in the industry. (Some examples of mission-driven brands: Pinch of Colour, which is focused on the global water crisis; Save Me From, which is dedicated to mental health and the prevention of suicide; and Thrive Causemetics, which focuses on supporting women in need.)
