Blueberries gets approval to sell CBD products in Colombia
Canada-based Blueberries has confirmed it has got approval to sell CBD-derived products in Colombia after the country’s food and drug regulator gave approval.

The company is a leading provider and manufacturer of medicinal cannabis and cannabis-derived products throughout the Latin American region, and its current portfolio also includes a wide range of cosmetic and personal care products.

The Instituto Nactional de Vigilanice de Medicamentos y Aliementos (INVIMA), the Colombian food and drug agency, approved the company to produce, sell and export a total of five cannabidiol based health and wellness products.

Five products get approval

Bluberries can now market its health and wellness range in the country, which includes a face cream, lip balm, body cream, beauty balm and a cannabis oil shampoo.

Company executives say they are now aiming to launch the line of products in Colombia and throughout the rest of Latin America in the second half of 2019, once brand strategy and distribution agreements are in place.

The business strategy intends that its strong marketing team, led by Christian Toro, will serve to help grow its cosmeceutical line, which will also mean bringing new products to market.

Colombian market approval crucial to growth

Executives are also expecting that the recent INVIMA approval from the Colombian authorities will also serve to trigger approval from authorities in the rest of the Latin American region.

“INVIMA approval is a major accomplishment which allows us to commence product commercialization.” Said Dr. Patricio Stocker, company CEO.

Discussing more about the focus of the product line, Dr. Stocker also stated that the range would be premium, formulated with natural ingredients and targeted at both males and females.

CBD has huge potential

CBD represents a huge potential in the global cosmetics and personal care market and is currently one of the hottest and most talked about ingredients for the massive skin care category.

It is rich in many essential skin nutrients, including vitamin E, Omega 3 and 6, as well as having more medicinal properties that can be channeled into the treatment of acne, dry skin and psoriasis.

In North America the regulatory aspect of CBD has made the market a little bit trickier to navigate, but increasingly more and more states are approving CBD for topical applications.

In Latin America the regulation of CBD skin care products is proving to be more straight forward, creating huge opportunities for companies that can meet with the regulatory requirements in specific countries.
