The biotech laboratory behind the dry mask infuser technology made popular by Nannette de Gaspé has just announced a market-ready collection of dry masks available in a variety of active formulations, skin care shapes, and decorative patterns.

The SkinSmart Dry Mask Boutique from Québec, Canada – based Biomod Concepts is a turnkey option for brands looking to bring this tidy, sophisticated skin care product to consumers.

Company press materials announcing the new collection describe it as “a simple, quick solution-based offering for brands to enrich their skin care range with our disruptive and highly effective innovations.”

Infuser technology

The Biomod Concepts dry masks (or infusers) are rightly touted as “water free, easy to use, non-drip, reusable, highly effective, and travel friendly.”

In 2017, the Nannette de Gaspé brand (a product line comprising only the luxury version of these dry masks) was honored as the Best Indie Beauty Brand of the Year by Cosmetics Design’s Beauty Industry Awards.

In conversation with Cosmetics Design at last year’s in-cosmetics global event in London, brand founder Nannette de Gaspé Beaubien explained that “there are two technologies that are incorporated in [the] infusers. The first technology is something called the biomimetic micro-vector.” And according to a Biomod Concepts spokesperson,“the actives are homogenously dispersed into the biomimetic lipidic base of our vectors that melt through their epidermis journey, slowly releasing the actives where their effectiveness is optimal.”

In this way, as de Gaspé explains, the formula continues to feed and nourish the skin for upward of six to eight hours after the mask has been applied. The second technology is the process in which we dry print the formula on the textiles.” (You can see the full video of her conversation with Cosmetics Design here.)

Active formulations

Infusers available as part of the SkinSmart Dry Mask Boutique come with one of six distinctive (and relatively self-explanatory) formulas: HydraShield, NatureSource, CityProtect, SkinDetox, AgeCorrective, and SelfieFix.

Each formula is paraben free and, depending on the formula selected, free-from other ingredients of concern as well.

For instance, HydraShiled is made without “preservative, paraben, silicone, and phenoxyethaol,” according to Biomod press materials. This skin treatment formulations are all certified for sale and use in Canada, the US, Puerto Rico, Europe, Russia, China, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and Israel. Catherine Thériault, whose credited with developing the HydraShield formula, included active ingredients such as hyaluraonic acid, saliporine extract, pytosterol, squalene, and shea butter in this mask.

Mix and match options

Brands can choose any one of the product formulas, any one of three dry mask shapes, and from six decorative prints in any of six colors. There are, according to Biomod, over 100 unique dry mask possibilities to choose from.

The shapes available comprise face, hands, and neck & oval. “Each dry mask starts with our exclusive, non-woven, two-way stretch fabric and our unique loop system for optimal close-to-the-skin fit,” explains the company materials.

Modern, tasteful prints available are called Ocean Mist, TechGems, Messenger, Matrix, Rose Garden, and Tropical. And the six (dare we say, millennial-ready) colors available are pink, green, grey, yellow, blue, and orange.

This article was updated 15-Nov-17 to accurately describe biomimetic vectors. (de Gaspé misspoke in her on-camera interview with Cosmetics Design last year; and in the first version of this article, Cosmetics Design included the inaccuracy.)
