in-cosmetics Global 2017 to feature a makeup bar

At this year’s event in London, color cosmetics ingredient makers have the opportunity to showcase new technologies, ingredients, and prototypes. For visitors it’s a chance to discover what the ingredients can do in formulation by trying nail color, eye color, lip color, and facial makeup.

Color, as a category, is doing very well for the industry lately. At a CEW event in New York City late last year, industry leaders concurred “the color boom is just getting started,” as IT Cosmetics CEO Jamie Kern Lima put it.

And data from every corner of the industry reinforces this. To substantiate the new makeup bar feature, the in-cosmetics team cites statistics that in Europe the decorative cosmetics category grew by more than 7% in 2015 and that the US cosmetics pigments market will grow to over $11bn in the next five years.

In demand

Color is being used in ever more innovative ways and makeup now offers more benefits and results. Product manufacturers are eager to experience what’s newly possible.

“Make-up has been a staple of the cosmetic industry for many years. And over the last few years, innovations in pigments and unique uses of colour have seen it become the driving force behind the market’s success,” Cathy Laporte, exhibition director of in-cosmetics Global, tells the press.

She goes on to explain that event attendees want and expect a makeup bar experience to better understand what new ingredients can do in formulation. “The category is growing in importance and with 73% of our visitors wanting to test more ingredients the Make-up Bar is an ideal platform for this year’s in-cosmetics Global.”

On the stand

The makeup bar is sponsored by BASF and that company’s own (relatively new) global pigment brand Colors & Effects. The brand comprises a dedicated pigments team. As Alexander Haunschild, senior vice president, of the BASF Global Pigments Business, explained last June when Color & Effects made its debut, “In this competitive marketplace, we created a brand focused entirely on pigments to provide our customers with products and solutions from one single source.”

The makeup bar will showcase color products from twelve other companies. And, from the looks of the in-cosmetics Global page describing the feature, there’s room for more.

So far ingredient makers from six countries will be exhibiting at the makeup bar: Brenntag, Codif, Daito Kasei, DSM Nutritional Products, Induchem, JRS, Lubrizol, Nikko Chemicals, Sensient, Stearinerie Dubois, Sun Chemical, and Worlée Chemie. “We’re delighted to be featuring companies that are helping deliver stand-out make-up products across the world….suppliers will present products that will be invaluable to manufacturers looking to maximise sales of decorative cosmetics products in years to come,” says Laporte.

The 2017 edition of in-cosmetics Global takes place April 4 – 6 in London and is anticipated to attract 9,000 visitors from around the world.
