YouTube sparks new cosmetics business model

Online video broadcaster YouTube has been used to launch a new make-up line from Lauren Luke, a 27 year old mother of one, turned internet sensation, from South Shields, UK.

Luke, whose online ‘make-up tutorials’ have attracted 40 million viewers, used her web-fame as the platform to launch and market a new cosmetics line entitled ‘By Lauren Luke’.

Collaborating with marketing business Anomaly and cosmetics branding company Zorbit Resources, the aim was to use YouTube as a marketing opportunity from which to sell beauty products.

Lauren’s success is indicative of the new possibilities and challenges websites such as YouTube have set for the beauty industry.
