Canadian pharmacy chain, Shoppers Drug Mart, unveiled the first of its new beauty stores in Ottawa this weekend.

The first of the Murale stores opened its doors in Place d’Orléans in Ottawa on Saturday 8 November.

The Ottawa store is the first of many planned by the pharmacy retailer before the end of 2009.

According to the company, Murale will offer luxury, dermatological and niche brands accompanied by professional service and an assortment of treatments.

“Murale is unlike any other beauty offering in North America with its unique combination of leading beauty and dermatological products and professional, expert services and consultation,” said Shoppers Drug Mart CEO Jurgen Schreiber.

Brands offered in the new stores will include Bobbi Brown, Chanel, Estée Lauder and Lancôme along with the designer fragrances of Chloé and Cartier.

Shoppers will be able to sample the delights of over 30 beauty and spa services in two cabins located next to the dermatological area inside the store.

The second of the Murale stores will welcome customers early December in Galerie Place Ville Marie in Montreal. In addition, the company has announced it will be opening a further five to seven stores in Canada throughout 2009.

The announcement comes shortly after US company CVS Caremark opened its first concept prestige beauty store in Washington.

Beauty 360 offers a similar mix of prestige brands, professional advice and treatments and the company plans to open more in 2009 in locations where ‘beauty performs exceedingly well’.
