BASF has appointed a new head of its Aroma Chemicals business and
Art & Fragrance has created an executive board position for its
cosmetics operations.

At BASF Bernd Burkhart is taking over leadership of the Aroma Chemicals business after the unexpected death of his predecessor Ulrich Schaefer-Luederssen in April. Burkhart has worked for the German specialty chemicals firm since 1990. In 2005 he became responsible for the Cosmetic Solutions business in North America before moving back to Europe in January this year. Since that time Burkhart has been responsible for the strategic development of the Care Chemicals division, which includes the Aroma Chemicals business that he will now be heading up. In other appointment news Swiss-based Art & Fragrance are shaking-up their upper-level management to reflect recent changes to the business. Improving cosmetics management​ The luxury goods firm has created an executive board position for the management of its cosmetics business. Art & Fragrance said the move would help it develop its activities in cosmetics in a more focused and systematic manner. The company has yet to make a long-term appointment for the role, which will be filled in the interim by Marc Roesti, who already works for the company and has served for a long time as a consultant on the conception and development of perfumes and cosmetics. Art & Fragrance first entered the cosmetics market in January 2007 when it acquired the sun protection provider Ultrasun. It has since made further steps into the beauty market. Earlier this year it expanded its presence in the luxury perfume market by acquiring its rival Lalique for €44m. Other new staff changes at the company include the departure of the founder and former owner of Ultrasun, who remains affiliated with Art & Fragrance as a consultant. In addition, Romina Di Santi has been appointed as the new head of marketing after the departure of Irene Muller. Di Santi has worked for Art & Fragrance for seven years and is currently responsible for the marketing of Ultrasun and the Samourai brand.
