LifeVantage turns topical with antioxidant mix

Nutraceutical specialist LifeVantage is adapting its antioxidant
technology for the anti-aging skin care market in an effort to
boost declining sales.

The Colorado-based company is studying a blend of Protandim and LP Derma Complex to determine if these anti-aging ingredients can be effectively combined in a topical cream. Research on anti-aging potential"We believe that the study will show that this exciting new anti-aging formula is a break-through system that provides the skin with greater hydration, better penetration, increased production of anti-oxidant enzymes and a protective shield to slow down the aging effects from the environment,"​ said LifeVantage CEO David Brown. LifeVantage said the results of its study will be published later in the year but early indications suggest that the formula may accelerate the skin's innate ability to rejuvenate itself. According to the company, the marriage of Protandim and LP Derma Complex will boost the body's own production of antioxidant enzymes at the cellular level and therefore reduce free radical damage. "Each Protandim caplet contains a unique combination of phytonutrients that signal the body's genes to produce its own antioxidant enzymes which provide thousands of times more antioxidant power than any food or conventional antioxidant supplement,"​ said Dr. Brooks Hybertson, a member of the LifeVantage scientific advisory board. "The combination with LP Derma Complex provides hydration, protection and skin permeation of the active ingredients, making it highly compelling for study of its use as an innovative and topical skin care solution,"​ added Hybertson. Targeting flagging sales​ The company will be pinning its hopes on positive study results and eventually a successful product launch in order to remedy its current financial situation. Sales have been sliding over the past few quarters depressing its bottom line. Its net loss for the nine months ending March 31 increased to $3.2m from $1.3m for the same period last year. When the LifeVantage announced these results in May it said a strengthened management team and an improved TV and internet presence will prepare the way for renewed sales growth.
