Anti-aging laser specialist introduces delivery system

Aesthetic Technologies has introduced a delivery system to
compliment its Parisian Peel laser technology, a move that is said
to enhance penetration and efficacy.

Called the Suffusion System, it has been designed to help physicians and skin care professionals achieve better topical penetration when used in conjunction with the laser system. Said to be the first offering of its kind, Suffusion is a blend of ingredients that topically combine to provide a phonophoresis technique when applied before the laser procedure. This technology combines the electrically assisted percutaneous delivery of macromolecues, which the company says has shown significant promise on a range of skin types in a scientific study it has just completed. Improved skin brightness and tone ​ That study reported a 25 percent increase in skin brightness, with 85 percent of participants reporting a 25 percent or more improvement in skin tone. "We have achieved extremely positive results with this technique,"​ said Alison Shaya, president Aesthetic Technologies. "Adding the Suffusion System to the service mix will open up exciting new opportunities for medically orientated skin care practices, both in terms of increased revenue and the ability to attract new patients,"​ said Shaya. According to the company, laser devices that do not use phonophoresis techniques are incapable of dermal penetration because, without the dermal infusion, they cannot achieve penetration at the cellular level to stimulate collagen growth. Laser-based technologies boom ​ Light- or laser-based personal care technology has been making a big splash in the industry of late, highlighted by the fact that last year P&G made significant investments in laser-based technologies. In February 2007 the company announced that it was entering into a joint venture with Israeli company Syneron to develop its elos technology - combining energy from bi-polar, radio frequency and light sources to combat signs of aging.​The move came just days after P&G announced that its Gillette division was making a $1.5m investment in US company Palomar to develop its light-based hair removals technology for home-use. Likewise, another company also launched a light-based anti-aging laser treatments for home use last year. Called Rejuvawand and produced by Light Dimensions, it relies on red lasers to stimulate collagen growth and improve skin structure. As a result of all of the activity in laser technology for the personal care field, the FDA says that it is has been flooded with applications from company's marketing these kind of products and seeking approval.
