As more and more people use their products on-the-go, consumers are increasingly demanding smaller personal care bottles that fit in to sports bags and weekend luggage.
But on top of the big rise in on-the-go use, increasingly tough airport security checks, which now stipulate that all cosmetic products carried on board aircraft should be less than 3oz, or 100ml in size.
With this in mind, Alpha has added a 3oz version to its popular Boston Round line, featuring a 24-400 neck and a traditional slim profile, and fitting in between the company's exisiting 3oz and 4oz PET offerings.
Alpha says that the new launch is compliant with Transportation Services Administration requirements for air travel with liquid cosmetics for domestic air travel in the US.
Likewise it is also said to be two to three times larger than most amenity bottles. Many consumers have had to make do with such packaging in an effort to comply with regulations, but have equally reported that the size is too small for many requirements, such as shampoo or shower gel.
The launch of the 3oz bottle is also backed up by the launch of a 6oz Squat Boston Rounded version, which will be offered in three different neck finished that accommodate different styles, closures, pumps and sprayers.
The two newly launched PET bottles are positioned to complement the existing 2oz and 4oz bottle size, turning the range into a more complete offering, available in basic- clear, amber and cobalt, as well as a number of other colors for specific orders.
The expansion of the company's PET bottle range follows a clear trend in the industry whereby consumers are demanding more of a variety of packaging sizes to suit their specific needs.
This trend has also been picked up by a number of other companies, including New York-based Nalgene, which recently introduced a kit comprising a selection of bottles, jars and dispensers designed to fulfill airport security restrictions.
Meanwhile packaging provider Pactiv has also responded to the security risk by increasing production of clear zip lock bags, designed to fulfill security requirements to contain all hand carry cosmetic items in such bags.
