The Center for Professional Innovation and Education (CfPIE) will expand its offerings to include a new certification track for those in the skin care and cosmetics industries engaged in manufacturing, research, and product development.
The Skin/Cosmetic Certified Professional (SCCP) track will provide an opportunity to stay up-to-date on best practices and market trends while remaining compliant in an ever changing industry with arduous consumer demands.
The certification will look at Cosmetic Good Manufacturing Practices, U.S. regulation, product development and claim substantiation.
Rigorous adherence to good manufacturing practice minimizes the risk of adulteration or misbranding of cosmetics, so CfPIE aims to outline the international development and harmonization of cosmetic GMP to provide participants with the chance to stay on top.
As well as staying within the guidelines and ensuring the correct path to market, cosmetics companies also have to constantly produce newer, better products into the market within a much shorter time frame.
CfPIE says it will have a focus on successful market entry strategies incorporating complex configuration of consumer trend analysis, scientific know-how, efficiency in product development and supply chain management.
On top of this the program will take a look at dermal product development, aimed at developing understanding of formulation's physical properties and ways of measuring these properties.
A final focus will be on claim substantiation for topical products, which has been a big industry concern in recent times.
The FDA and the FTC are carefully watching cosmetic products for non-substantiated misleading claims, and have clamped down on many firms, so this topic is of vital importance to the industry.
With the cosmetic industry striving to produce safer products, scientific resources should be focused on better testing products for their activity on the skin while meeting all product claims, says CfPIE.
Other course topics include biomarkers in skin care, ingredient safety, drug delivery, formulations development, skin inflammation, and transdermal delivery.
CfPIE says that its certifications involve no additional costs, above and beyond standard course fees.
“Each program gives candidates the flexibility to tailor coursework to their unique professional needs by choosing three core courses and one elective course from any of the 80 instructional courses offered by CfPIE.”
