Beraca presented its new conditioning hair care ingredient at In-Cosmetics in Amsterdam tapping into the ever growing trend for certified organic ingredients.

The Brazil-based company launched Beracare BioBehenic Active (BBA), a hair conditioning agent with Ecocert natural and organic certification at the trade show last week.

Conditioning seed oil

The active is rich in behenic acid, a conditioning oil that is harvested from the seeds of the Pentaclethra macroloba tree found in the Amazon rainforest.

The oil, traditionally used by local people for hair and body treatment, has a conditioning effect on the hair, increasing shine, softness and manageability, according to the company.

Furthermore, Beraca claims that the active has many characteristics that improve its performance in formulations.

Beracare BBA will give greater viscosity and promote stabilization in emulsions as well as being compatible with other cationic agents, it claims.

The company specialises in extracts sourced from the abundant natural resources in South America. Its Rain Forest Specialties line is composed of fixed oils, essential oils, extracts, resins, clay and butters from Brazil.

The company also produces the Active Performance System line, natural products with blended actives for specific applications such as anti-acne and anti-dandruff agents.

Certified ingredients winning out

Last week's trade show saw a number of launches of certified organic and natural ingredients, both active compounds and base ingredients.

US-based National Starch Personal Care used the event as a platform to launch a range of certified organic biopolymers.

The Naviance range contains four certified ingredients derived from waxy maize and tapioca, including three rheology modifiers that deliver silky feel, mildness and easy incorporation and an aesthetic enhancer that is designed to give powder formulations a smooth feel but may also be added to emulsions.

In addition, France-based Gattefossé launched a range of new actives including Gatuline In-Tense, a rapid reaction anti-wrinkle ingredient that is awaiting BDIH natural certification.
