O.Berk acquires VPI Packaging for luxury cosmetics and personal care

The two New Jersey – based packaging companies announced the deal this week, highlighting that O.Berk picks up VPI’s portfolio of luxury personal care products and services.

Apparently O.Berk and VPI Packaging collaborated closely in the run up to this month’s acquisition, and as a result, “the Personal Care services and products [VPI's customers] depend on are available – uninterrupted and on an on-going and ever-growing basis,” according to a statement on the O.Berk site.

More industry

Founded in 1910, O.Berk serves numerous industries with its closures, containers, decorating, and custom container solutions. This deal “reflects O.Berk's growth strategy to offer the finest products and service across all industries,” explains the company.

“We’re making this acquisition to broaden our capabilities and better serve you as the finest source for off-the-shelf and custom packaging solutions. We are highly focused on continuing and extending VPI Packaging’s tradition of quality and providing the very best service in the industry,” claims O.Berk.

Personal care and cosmetics isn’t, however, a new category of business for O.Berk.

Beauty in a jar

Over the past year alone, O.Berk has launched, updated, and refreshed several containers suitable for beauty. In March, the company’s new 200ml PETG round plastic jar with heavy walls and a low profile became available, offering “glass like clarity and upscale appearance…ideal for your cosmetic products,” according to the company product spotlight item about this container.

Also this year, O.Berk improved upon its Drake Lotion Pump dispenser top. That solution now features, “increased area for finger placement [that] ensures a full press of 2CC per actuation,” as the site notes. And just this summer, O.Berk launched its Heaven Sprayer cosmetic dispensing solution. This sprayer top promises a fine mist coverage that’s “perfect for body spray, sun block, hair care, or fragrance products.”

Luxury market

Acquiring VPI packaging does move O.Berk into a new level of the beauty container market. “They design a lot of luxury packaging — something we have tried to expand on,” Edward Cook, marketing coordinator at O.Berk tells placticsnews.com.

The two companies have partnered on select projects over the years and certainly have some customers in common.  Now that O.Berk owns VPI Packaging’s assets, Chris Lambert VP of sales for VPI Packaging believes “that O.Berk's acquisition will produce packaging benefits across the board for O.Berk and VPI clients in the Personal Care marketplace, as well as in related markets. O.Berk's substantial platform and resources are a perfect fit for VPI's clients and we expect O.Berk's lineup of quality offerings to be enhanced by VPI's product lines."
