Last week at an invitation-only breakfast in New York City, the Cosmetic Executive Women organization and their media partner Meredith Corporation celebrated the brands and products advancing on to the consumer-judged round of the Iconic Award.

It’s the second year that Meredith and CEW have partnered on this particular award. And as Carlotta Jacobson, President of CEW explains, “The Beauty Awards were developed to help consumers discover new products and innovations.” But, “this award [in particular] gives beauty enthusiasts the opportunity to vote to select the winners, representing beauty’s most iconic products.”

As Nancy Weber, EVP of branding and marketing partnerships at Meredith Corporation, noted at the event, Meredith readers spend $12bn annually on beauty.“We had a great response to the first Iconic Consumers’ Choice awards last year and we expect this year to be even bigger,” says Weber, in a press release about the awards. “Consumer love and loyalty are what make a product iconic and we’ll be encouraging our audience of 110 million women to make their voices heard about the products they love.”

Big beauty

The Beauty Insider Awards get bigger every year. For 2017 entrees increased by 25% to over 900, as Jacobson told the crowd gathered at the Monkey Bar on Manhattan’s East Side, last week.

And while many of the products competing for an Iconic Award are legacy beauty items others, as Weber tells Cosmetics Design, are simply “first to market,”  like the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment or the Neutrogena Makeup Removing Cleansing Towelettes, which won last year’s award in the mass category.
