Boasting a record number of attendees and high industry engagement, the event organizers are looking ahead to 2017 for another show serving a spectrum of industries from dietary supplements to sports nutrition, and from functional food to personal care.

The annual tradeshow took place earlier this month at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada. Close to 15,000 suppliers and buyers attended the event hosted by Informa Exhibitions.

“Since the first SupplySide West show 20 years ago, our mission has been to support the growth and prosperity of our industry,” Jon Benninger, vice president of the Global Health & Nutrition Network for Informa Exhibitions, says in a press release recapping the 2016 show.

“That is a role and responsibility we embrace and take very seriously. We commend our attendees, exhibitors, sponsors and speakers for their efforts to bring safe, science-based, healthy products to market,” says Benninger, adding, “we will continue to be a dedicated partner and ally in this important work.”

Facts and figures

According to Informa’s data, 64 countries, 8 Canadian provinces, and all 50 US states were represented at the tradeshow.

Personal care and cosmetics company staff were among the prominent executives and buyers in attendance. Pros from Aveda, Hain Celestial Group, Procter & Gamble, Reckitt Benckiser, Shaklee, and Whole Foods Market, and other similar companies were at SupplySide West this year.

Exhibits and education

Tradeshows like this one are a chance to learn, connect, and explore.

"This was my first visit to a SupplySide West show, and it was fascinating to hear firsthand about the challenges as well as the opportunities colleagues face each day,” John Helfrick, director at BASF Human Nutrition, North America, says in the press release. 2016 was BASF’s 14th year as overall education sponsor at SupplySide West.

“One thing rings true from these varied conversations,” observes Helfrick, “timely and credible education is key to our success.”

Beauty focus

SupplySide West included a small selection of education and networking events well suited to personal care industry professionals.

A three-hour workshop on the second day of the event surveyed how manufacturers and brands can innovate beauty products with novel ingredients and covered sourcing, supply chain, and marketing issues.

Later that day, there was another workshop for cosmetic and personal care industry pros called, “Evaluating and Partnering with Contract Labs.”

Among the exhibitors on hand, many such as Naturex, Evonik, and Sabinsa, cater to the personal care industry. “SupplySide West exhibitors are showcasing cutting-edge formulations and ingredients that are not just ‘anti-aging,’ but pro-beauty,” notes the event site.

The 2017 edition of SupplySide West is set for September 26 through 30, again at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada.
