The accelerating pace of beauty product launches today have motivated suppliers of cosmetics and personal care packaging to not only offer more customization solutions but also more turnkey options. And now, Pujolasos has just such a line of containers and jars.

At last week’s ADF&PCD packaging and aerosols tradeshow in New York City the Barcelona, Spain – based luxury packaging company launched a collection of standard containers fitted with its signature wooden lids for use by skin care brands.

In conversation with Cosmetics Design, Sergi Gonzales, sales manager for Pujolasos explained that the ready-to-go line comprises several jars and airless tubes in standard sizes and corresponding toppers in an assortment of woods.

The newly launched line was created specifically “for the US market,” especially “small and midsized companies in the US that want [packaging] ready to go fast,” he tells this publication. The company opted for a skin care line because that was one of two product categories where Pujolasos saw amazing growth in the past year, according to Gonzales. (Fragrance was the other.)

And while Pujolasos does accommodate typical minimum orders of 10,000 units, Gonzales says that “big players are starting to think about wood because now [very large] quantities are available.”

Packaging trends

At the ADF&PCD show where Pujolasos launched its new offering, Cosmetics Design also happened to be moderating a panel discussion titled, ‘Beating the Odds to Create Truly Innovative Beauty Packaging’. As part of that discussion, senior correspondent Deanna Utroske (that’s me) described a few trends influencing the beauty packaging business today: portion control, digital packaging, ship-ability, and sustainability.

Pujolasos packaging correlates nicely with the sustainability trend. As Cosmetics Design said, “sustainability so far as the consumer is concerned crosses over in to the space of natural ingredients and natural formulations. And, while it matters if packaging is sustainably sourced and manufactured, and recyclable or reusable, it can be just as impactful for packaging to simply be naturally inspired.”

For instance, “wooden [container] toppers signify in this context and have become quite popular because they’re both aesthetically pleasing and a made of a natural material,” noted Cosmetics Design.

Doubling up

Pujolasos counts LVMH, Rituals, and Clarins among its clients. And yesterday the packaging company announced that it is upping production capacity to serve large and small customers even better.

“The growth of the firm is due to the different projects in which it has worked, among which are large perfumery and cosmetics firms,” according to a press release about the capacity lift. Pujolasos has invested to bring it wooden cap production capacity up from 25 million units per year to 50 million units per year.
