Waltman has established its name as a producer and marketer of treatments aimed at teenage and adolescent acne, but says its new Adult Acne Clearing Gel, ZapZyt, will see it launching into this up and coming niche for the first time. The product has been created for adults aged 25 or older who suffer from relatively mild acne breakouts, but want a treatment designed around their specific skin requirements. Natural-based mild formula The formula contains aloe and further taps into the trend for natural-based ingredients with the incorporation of a mixture of botanicals aimed at reducing the redness and swelling associated with acne breakouts. The company also says that because the formula has been designed to be light it can also be worn underneath make-up. "Acne at any age can be embarrassing and we feel the Adult Acne Clearing Gel will help fill a void in the category," said Whitney Burns, vice president of Waltman Pharmaceuticals. Emerging niche for adult acne However, that void has already started to be filled, with a number of similar products being launched on the North American market in recent months. At the beginning of March Jan Marini Skin Research launched a product that simultaneously targets the fine lines and adult acne often associated with females undergoing the menopausal transition. Age Intervention Transitions is designed to minimize acne breakouts while improving the appearance of follicle size, fine lines, rough facial texture and leftover acne discoloration.
Mississippi-based Waltman Pharmaceuticals is launching an OTC adult acne treatment, contributing to a rash of similar launches targeting the same niche.
