Beauty consumers are faced with an increasingly complex and confusing web of conflicting information. Cutting through the confusion and reaching the customer will be high on the agenda of the Personal Care Products Council's annual meeting.

Legal and marketing experts will gather on the first day of the meeting, which is taking place in Boca Raton in Florida on February 26-29, to advise the members of the trade association on effective communication.

Getting through

Consumers are bombarded with information from different interest groups making it difficult for companies to persuade people that their products are safe.

Getting the safety message across and presenting complex scientific information simply will be at the heart of a presentation by Alex Castallonos and Bruce Haynes from National Media.

Experienced in running high profile public affairs and advertising campaigns, the speakers will reveal to attendees their model for effectively marketing ideas.

The presentation will also be relevant to cosmetic companies looking to persuade regulators, legislators and policymakers that they are responsible corporate citizens.

In a related presentation on February 27, McGinn Group CEO Dan McGinn and legal analyst Roger Cossack will discuss communicating legal matters in a world where the Simpsons, CSI and YouTube are all sources of legal information.

The goal of their talk is to show how understanding the cultural and communications challenges of today can help companies both inform and persuade.

Other highlights

The annual meeting will also tackle the latest consumer trends with the theme of the trade association event being 'A Vision of Beauty Through the Eyes of the Consumer'.

Highlights of the meeting include a keynote speech from Terry Lundgren, the CEO of Macy's, on February 28.

Other important talks will cover consumer revolutions of the future and the biomonitoring program of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
