Suppliers’ Day chair highlights new venue and innovation

Related tags New york

On May 2nd the NYSCC Suppliers’ Day is opening its doors in the heart of Manhattan for the first time, having moved from its traditional venue in Edison, New Jersey.

Cosmetics Design caught up with the event’s outgoing chair, Marie Thadal, to find out more about what the move means to both exhibitors and visitors, as well as tuning in on what else is new at this year’s event.

What have been your main priorities for this year’s show?

To create a dynamic global ingredients and raw materials marketplace for the cosmetic and personal care industries that provides current education, exciting innovations and networking opportunities to inspire new formulations, create company success and advance cosmetic science.

How has shifting the show over to Manhattan worked out? What were the main challenges?

Change is never easy, but the move to New York was based on our members and exhibitors wants and needs.  Having the exhibits in one contiguous hall in one of the most exciting city for beauty and fashion trends has been well received.  This year’s exhibit floor is 10% larger, and will occupy 80,000 net square feet. Attendees will also discover some emerging innovators and never before seen ingredients and raw materials.

What are the main themes you’d like to highlight at this year’s event?

Suppliers’ Day will continue to amplify NYSCC’s focus on sustainability.   There will be short, educational sessions in the Presentation Theater on the show floor.  Discover Sustainability will feature experts from Brazil and China discussing sustainability on a global scale.  There will also be exhibitor presentations from the “Focus on Sustainability” awards winners who are breaking ground in sustainability initiatives.

Developing the workforce of the future will also be evident at NYSCC, with The Future Chemists Workshop, that will challenge invited university students to design formulations that promote sustainability.

Another industry hot button is the impact of technology in the product development cycle.   The Digital Age of Beauty will be 2-days of learning about the new technologies, including virtual reality and 3D, that are helping manufacturers to introduce new products and reduce time-to-market.

Besides the change of venue, what are the main changes to this year’s event?

Don’t miss the Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony that will celebrate NYSCC’s move to New York and features past NYSCC presidents as well as a special performance from the Broadway musical WAR PAINT-- the story of Helena Rubinstein and Elizabeth Arden—fierce rivals who defined 20th Century beauty.

Innovations Alley on the exhibit floor, a juried showcase of the latest ingredients, solutions and technology that are, in many cases, debuting in the US or have not been seen at an event prior to NYSCC Suppliers Day 2017.

Latest Trends in China’s Cosmetic Chemistry Sector in the presentation theater featuring the country’s leading professors, scientists and doctors.

NYSCC Industry Awards Night party on Tuesday at STAGE 48 to kick-off the new venue and celebrate exhibitor achievements in sustainability. It also will be a great opportunity to learn all about SCC membership and its educational, fun and interactive benefits.

What  are the biggest changes for both visitors and exhibitors at this year’s show?

Attendees and exhibitors will find that this year’s NYSCC Suppliers’ Day is more accessible via all modes of public and private transportation.   Besides access by the ferry, subway, and train, there will be complimentary shuttle bus services from select NYC hotels and locations and a daily round-trip NJ Shuttle bus from two New Jersey locations.

Once they enter the Javits Center all the exhibits are in one continuous hall of exhibit space and the meetings and special features are on the show floor or in meeting rooms that line the exhibit space.

Food Services will be provided right on the Show Floor including coffee, breakfast, and select sponsored food carts, and portable snacks.

NYC & Co. also offers a Delegate Pass with discounts to restaurants and city attractions throughout Manhattan for after show hours entertainment.

What has been your biggest achievement during your years as chair of Suppliers’ Day?

Besides leading an amazing team to execute the NYSCC world renowned Suppliers' Day big move to the Javits Center, nearly 500 NYSCC members have participated in the chapter’s educational program events since the beginning of my tenure. The chapter’s fundamental goal is to educate and bring knowledge to its members in order to gain a competitive advantage on a global scale.

We reorganized as a board to strategically combine our strength and skills as one united force in our quest to meet the mission of the chapter and attracted new volunteers bringing a renewed excitement and expertise to NYSCC.

While Suppliers' Day is our flagship event, it is just one part of the chapter’s activities. A Sponsorship committee was recently formed to showcase and support our suppliers' technology throughout the year.  We are working with a Blogger to increase our digital presence and a Scientific Advisory Board was created to mine and disseminate information that is relevant and will bring value to our members.

The year is just getting started for NYSCC members and exciting monthly events are scheduled until the end of 2017.

I encourage all scientists to become SCC members, connect with us on social media, and sign up to receive our monthly Cosmetiscope newsletter. Be on the look-out for a redesigned logo and website and please visit us at Suppliers’ Day and check out what's new and what's hot at NYSCC!
