How can regulatory compliance improve performance for cosmetics businesses?

This hugely important question will be answered during a key presentation at next month’s Cosmetics Vision event, given by Annelie Struessmann, technical director at CONUSBAT.

‘Not a burden but a benefit: Regulatory as a spur to improved performance’ is the title of the presentation that will be given on the third day of the event , Friday March 7th, which will see Struessmann reveal how getting on top of REACH regulations could serve to boost business.

The presentation will touch on themes such as the state of play of the global regulatory landscape and key differences in individual markets, how regulators are adapting to consumer needs, and the smartest routes to compliance.

Technology can be a useful tool to regulation fulfilment

Beyond these points, Struessmann believes that companies can map out their destiny with respect to regulation fulfilment through careful planning, with one particular tool being to use the latest technologies.

“An important impact comes from technology developed within the regulatory environment, this can be used for new product and ingredient development,” Struessmann said.

Struessmann says that REACH has put considerable pressure on certain areas of the business, but believes that ultimately these hurdles will be overcome, leaving businesses in a stronger position.

A steep learning curve, with rewards

“Questions arise which result from worldwide specifics and it can be seen that the EU legislator has not considered these while making the law and help-desk representatives cannot answer these as they do not have global experiences,” she stated.

“Also, non-EU work force often lacks the understanding of the EU, the cultural specifics, the regulatory approaches. With time elapsed and REACH practice gained, a learning curve, though, can to be observed.”

The Cosmetics Vision event features various networking opportunities, a round-table industry discussion and a two-day conference programme with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Will Smith, founder of King Of Shaves and Dr. Liliana George, executive director of corporate innovation and sustainability at Estée Lauder.
